چکیده

Over the years, cultivation using sustainable tillage practices has gained significant importance, but impact of on soil water infiltration is still a concern for landowners due to possible effects crop yield. This study investigates different managements rate sandy clay loam under semiarid environment. Field experiments were conducted in Chott Mariem Sousse, Tunisia. The consisted three treatments, including tine cultivator (TC, 16 cm), moldboard plows (MP, 36 cm) and no-tillage (NT). Three models, Kostiakov, Philip Horton, applied adjust observed data evaluate characteristics studied soils. Comparison criteria, coefficient determination (R2), along with root mean square error (RMSE) absolute (MAE), used investigate best-fit model. results showed that plowing enhanced capacity relative treatments. saturated hydraulic conductivity was highest MP, while it lowest NT, 33.4% 34.1% reduction compared TC respectively. Based obtained results, Philip’s model better higher R2 (0.981, 0.973 0.967), lower RMSE (3.36, 9.04 9.21) MAE (1.46, 3.53 3.72) recorded, respectively, MP TC. Horton’s had low regression between predicted values. It suggested two-term can adequately describe process area.

Tillage and soil quality Tillage practices for sustainable agriculture and environmental quality in different agroecosystems

For centuries tillage has been used to prepare suitable seedbed to grow crops, and to control weeds and incorporate fertilizers, pesticides, manures and other amendments. In early years conversion of native ecosystems by tillage helped to unlock nutrients stored in soil organic matter, and thus `mine' naturally fertile soils to grow crops with minimum inputs for the growing population. However,...

Impacts of different tillage practices on some soil microbiological properties and crop yield under semi-arid Mediterranean conditions

Effects of six tillage practices on some soil microbiological properties and crop yields were evaluated for a clay soil (Typic Haploxererts) under semi-arid Mediterranean conditions in a three year study (2006-2009). The experiment was designed as a completely randomized-block with three replications. Treatments were: conventional tillage with residue incorporated (CT1), conventional tillage wi...

The influence of tillage treatments on water infiltration into soil profile

Water infiltration into the soil profile and runoff losses in arable lands are related to the condition of the top layer. The tillage treatment (included no-till) of the top layer plays a key role in changes of the hydro-physical properties, mainly saturated hydraulic conductivity (K) of the treated layer. This paper is focused on the influence of repeated tillage treatments in the same localit...

Calibration and evaluation of water infiltration models in different soil textures

Accurate estimation of water infiltration into the soil is important for the design of irrigation systems. Therefore, calibration of different models is necessary to estimate the permeability in different regions. The aim of the present study was to calibrate and evaluate the models of Kastiakov, Kastiakov modified, Philip, SCS, Novell, and Horton in different soil textures. To evaluate the acc...
