Impacts of 3DEnVar-Based FY-3D MWHS-2 Radiance Assimilation on Numerical Simulations of Landfalling Typhoon Ampil (2018)

The module for assimilating radiance data of the Microwave Humidity Sounder-2 (MWHS-2) onboard Feng Yun 3D (FY-3D) satellite is built in Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model assimilation (WRFDA) system. CONV, 3DVar, EnVar experiments are conducted to investigate impact new humidity sounder based on Typhoon Ampil (2018). Both 3DVar assimilate FY-3D MWHS-2 top conventional data, while CONV experiment only applies data. In experiment, notable geopotential height increment observed around typhoon, leading typhoon move northeast. addition, moisture field improved some extent. Finally, from analysis dynamic it can be found that adjust structure typhoon. Furthermore, reduces forecast error track intensity. Additionally, precipitation skill terms rainfall pattern verification score. This improvement may closely related features circulation concerning evolution prediction position intensity rainbands corresponds a better structure.
