Impact dynamics of a viscous drop containing a particle

چکیده

When a particle is attached under liquid drop by surface tension, it forms solid–liquid compound drop. We investigate experimentally the impact dynamics of this onto solid surface. After impact, rebounds from and rises through The can either remain in deposited at low velocities or separate above critical velocity. demonstrate here that as viscosity increases, separation threshold transitions capillary threshold, characterized Weber number, to viscous captured Stokes number. However, still below limit if shifted away axis symmetry before This shifting observed large falling heights, where destabilized air drag. In addition, we show also induce an inclination vertical jetting, with tangent its angle proportional distance particle. Finally, confirm focusing mechanism responsible for jetting combining observations two synchronized cameras, side view bottom view.

Impact of a viscous liquid drop.

We simulate the impact of a viscous liquid drop onto a smooth dry solid surface. As in experiments, when ambient air effects are negligible, impact flattens the falling drop without producing a splash. The no-slip boundary condition at the wall produces a boundary layer inside the liquid. Later, the flattening surface of the drop traces out the boundary layer. As a result, the eventual shape of...

Dynamics of particle - particle collisions in a viscous liquid

When two solid spheres collide in a liquid, the dynamic collision process is slowed by viscous dissipation and the increased pressure in the interparticle gap as compared with dry collisions. This paper investigates liquid-immersed head-on and oblique collisions, which complements previously investigated particle-on-wall immersed collisions. By defining the normal from the line of centers at co...

The Oscillations of a Viscous Liquid Drop*

By virtue of Green's Theorem, it is shown that for the diffraction of anarbitrary two-dimensional incident pulse by a wedge of angle n, the ratio of the resultantvelocity potential to the corresponding value of the incident pulse at the corner ofthe wedge at any instant is equal to 2x/ (2x — n); and that for the diffraction of a three-dimensional pulse by a cone of solid angle u...
