Understanding the Pathogenesis of Cytopathic and Noncytopathic Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus Infection Using Proteomics
Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) is a single-stranded RNA virus in the Pestivirus genus within the Flaviviridae family. BVDV infections are seen in all ages and breeds of cattle worldwide and have significant economic impact due to productive and reproductive losses (Houe 2003). Two antigenically distinct genotypes of BVDV exist, type 1 and 2 (Ridpath et al. 1994). BVDV of both genotypes may ...
متن کاملMonoclonal antibody analyses of cytopathic and noncytopathic viruses from fatal bovine viral diarrhea virus infections.
A panel of monoclonal antibodies that recognize the two major glycoproteins of bovine viral diarrhea virus (BDV) was used to evaluate the antigenic relationship between cytopathic (CP) and noncytopathic (NCP) viruses isolated from cattle dead or dying from fatal BDV infections. Various unrelated BDV isolates were initially screened by indirect immunofluorescence with monoclonal antibodies direc...
متن کاملTVB receptors for cytopathic and noncytopathic subgroups of avian leukosis viruses are functional death receptors.
The identification of TVB(S3), a cellular receptor for the cytopathic subgroups B and D of avian leukosis virus (ALV-B and ALV-D), as a tumor necrosis factor receptor-related death receptor with a cytoplasmic death domain, provides a compelling argument that viral Env-receptor interactions are linked to cell death (4). However, other TVB proteins have been described that appear to have similar ...
متن کاملNoncytopathic Sindbis virus RNA vectors for heterologous gene expression.
Infection of vertebrate cells with alphaviruses normally leads to prodigious expression of virus-encoded genes and a dramatic inhibition of host protein synthesis. Recombinant Sindbis viruses and replicons have been useful as vectors for high level foreign gene expression, but the cytopathic effects of viral replication have limited their use to transient studies. We recently selected Sindbis r...
متن کاملComplete Genome Sequences of a Cytopathic/Noncytopathic Pair of Border Disease Viruses
The complete genome sequences of a cytopathic/noncytopathic pair of border disease viruses (BDV) that were isolated from a sheep with mucosal disease-like lesions were determined. The cytopathic virus possessed an insert of 288 nucleotides that was derived from the Jiv cellular transcript and had 37 nucleotide differences from the noncytopathic virus.
