“<i>Je suis</i> … Charlie, Samuel, Muhammed”: Practicing Muhammed Cartoons in Far Right and Islamist Politics

Abstract Since the 2005 Jyllands-Posten controversy, both far right and Islamist actors have employed Muhammed cartoons to construct a radical frontier between Muslims non-Muslims. This article aims provide better understanding of linkages two opposing forms popular identification by looking at utilization crystallize multitude (conflicting) subjects, affects, demands. Following vantage point mutual relations, investigates discursive performances Dutch branch transnational party Hizb ut-Tahrir Party for Freedom with respect affair, 2015 Charlie Hebdo attacks, 2020 killing French schoolteacher. Considering its cultural political foundations tolerance, case is pertinent examining tension free speech support extremist (far Islamist) identification.
