چکیده
This article identifies ten fragments, used as reinforcements in the sounding boxes of three instruments made by Antonio Stradivari (Cremona, ca. 1648–1737), which are now kept Ashmolean Museum Oxford (the ‘Cipriani Potter’ violin, 1683, and ‘Hill’ guitar, 1688) musée de la Musique Paris ‘Vuillaume’ guitar). The fragments appear to come from a single book hours, Italy no later than mid-fifteenth century. identification allows documentation use parchment making process Stradivari. authors discuss what common origin found distinct implies for authenticity relative dating their making. Finally, this study sheds light on potential documenting reused widely present many string musical produced sixteenth eighteenth centuries.

Toward Automatic Sound Source Recognition: Identifying Musical Instruments
One of the broad goals of research in computational auditory scene analysis (CASA) is to create computer systems that can learn to recognize sound sources in a complex auditory environment. In this paper, a set of acoustic features is proposed that relate to the physical properties of sound-producing objects. In particular, a set of orchestral musical instrument sounds is presented as represent...
متن کاملAdvancements in Actuated Musical Instruments
This article presents recent developments in actuated musical instruments created by the authors, who also describe an ecosystemic model of actuated performance activities that blur traditional boundaries between the physical and virtual elements of musical interfaces. Actuated musical instruments are physical instruments that have been endowed with virtual qualities controlled by a computer in...
متن کاملBimanuality in Alternate Musical Instruments
This paper presents a study of bimanual control applied to sound synthesis. This study deals with coordination, cooperation, and abilities of our hands in musical context. We describe examples of instruments made using subtractive synthesis, scanned synthesis in Max/MSP and commercial stand-alone software synthesizers via MIDI communication protocol. These instruments have been designed accordi...

For traditional (or acoustic) instruments of this type (e.g., woodwinds and most brass), the ways in which the combinations of keys can be assigne...
متن کاملEigenvalues and Musical Instruments
Most musical instruments are built from physical systems that oscillate at certain natural frequencies. The frequencies are the imaginary parts of the eigenvalues of a linear operator, and the decay rates are the negatives of the real parts, so it ought to be possible to give an approximate idea of the sound of a musical instrument by a single plot of points in the complex plane. Nevertheless, ...
