Pitch of synthetic sung vowels
Experiments a r e reported in which ~xus ica l ly trained subjects ~ i a t c h the pitch of zl. stimulus tone with a var iablc response tone, both tones being synthesis of a sung vo\vel. The effects on pitch and pitch perception ac curacy of vibratos of different kinds and tile ' singing formant' a r e examined. The resul t s appear to show that the pitch corresponds to the average fundamental ...
متن کاملAnalysis of intraperiodic formant modulations in spoken and sung vowels
Intraperiodic formant modulations in spoken and sung vowels from four Finnish male opera singers were analyzed by using analytic filtering method and modified covariance type of linear prediction. Both methods revealed clear formant modulations. Differences were seen between spoken and sung samples and between individuals.
متن کاملIntelligibility of sung vowels: the effect of consonantal context and the onset of voicing.
BACKGROUND Studies addressing the identification of sung vowels concern mainly the effect of the fundamental frequency (f0) and conclude that correct vowel identification decreases with increasing pitch. In one experiment, the impact of consonantal environment on the intelligibility of the vowels in high-pitched singing was also studied. The results of that experiment showed positive effect of ...
متن کاملInexactness and robustness in cepstral-to-formant transformation of spoken and sung vowels
Accurate measurement of formant frequencies is important in many studies of speech production and perception. The mapping of formant frequencies from cepstra coefficients by Broad and Clermont (1989) is an important evolution in formant estimation techniques from previous studies. This method also holds significant potential in estimating formant frequencies of sung vowels due to its improved r...
متن کاملFormant frequency analysis of children's spoken and sung vowels using sweeping fundamental frequency production.
High-pitched productions present difficulties in formant frequency analysis due to wide harmonic spacing and poorly defined formants. As a consequence, there is little reliable data regarding children's spoken or sung vowel formants. Twenty-nine 11-year-old Swedish children were asked to produce 4 sustained spoken and sung vowels. In order to circumvent the problem of wide harmonic spacing, F1 ...
