Identification of Elite Potato Clones with Resistance to Late Blight Through Participatory Varietal Selection in Peru

چکیده

Abstract Potato is the most important crop in Peru and late blight main disease affecting crop. However, new varieties that are resistant to often lack other traits farmers consumers prefer. Using participatory varietal selection, this study seeks identify clones with high potential become resistance but also feature a marketable tuber yield preferred agronomic traits. During 2016–2017, 36 previously selected for levels of from population B developed by International Center, three used as controls (INIA 302 Amarilis moderately resistant, INIA303 Canchan Yungay susceptible blight), were evaluated five Peruvian locations. At harvest, based on (i) evaluations made through Participatory Varietal Selection, (ii) analysis mixed models Best Linear Unbiased Predictors yield, (iii) low glycoalkaloid content tubers, (iv) good organoleptic quality. These again during 2017–2018 four Resistance yields identified criteria selection potato variety. The CIP308488.92, CIP308495.227 CIP308478.59 promising having superior local varieties, INIA-303 Canchan, Yungay, well quality content. can be suggested variety release similar agroecological environments.

Late blight resistance in a diploid full-sib potato family

Late blight, caused by Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary, is the most destructive disease of potato worldwide. As this pathogen can rapidly overcome major race-specific resistance genes, identifying the basis for enhanced quantitative resistance has become a crucial element for implementing advanced breeding strategies. A population of 230 full-sib progeny derived from a cross between two ...

Late Blight Resistance of RB Transgenic Potato Lines

Late blight of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.), incited by Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary, is a devastating disease affecting tuber yield and storage. Recent work has isolated a resistance gene, RB, from the wild species Solanum bulbocastanum Dun. Earlier work in Toluca, Mexico, observed significant levels of field resistance under intense disease pressure in a somatic hybrid containing R...

Early selection of potato clones with resistance genes: the relationship between combined resistance and agronomical characteristics

Cultivating resistant varieties of potato is the most effective and environmentally safe method of protecting against pests and diseases that affect potato crops. Therefore, potato breeding is focused on developing more resistant varieties so that the use of plant health products can be reduced during the cultivation cycle. Resistance to late blight, viruses and nematodes is the most important ...

Gene RB cloned from Solanum bulbocastanum confers broad spectrum resistance to potato late blight.

Late blight, caused by the oomycete pathogen Phytophthora infestans, is the most devastating potato disease in the world. Control of late blight in the United States and other developed countries relies extensively on fungicide application. We previously demonstrated that the wild diploid potato species Solanum bulbocastanum is highly resistant to all known races of P. infestans. Potato germpla...

Rpi-vnt1.1, a Tm-2(2) homolog from Solanum venturii, confers resistance to potato late blight.

Despite the efforts of breeders and the extensive use of fungicide control measures, late blight still remains a major threat to potato cultivation worldwide. The introduction of genetic resistance into cultivated potato is considered a valuable method to achieve durable resistance to late blight. Here, we report the identification and cloning of Rpi-vnt1.1, a previously uncharacterized late-bl...
