چکیده
Babesiosis is a tick-borne disease caused by intraerythrocytic protozoa. Despite the increasing acknowledgement that babesiosis represents threat to animal and human health, date there have been few studies focusing on in Republic of Korea (ROK). In present study, we report Babesia capreoli infection an Ixodes nipponensis tick obtained from Korean water deer (Hydropotes inermis argyropus). The was identified with polymerase chain reaction analysis as I. (Japanese hard tick). A phylogenetic based 18S rRNA gene sequences revealed isolate found belonged B. lineage distinct Asian, European, North American lineages divergens. Although our it did not form cluster others isolates same lineage; this may be due differences species transmit or host species. We were unable identify reservoir for case transmission, though regional ticks primary vector. This study confirms presence ROK, its suggests further warranted determine prevalence pathogenicity wild domesticated animals.

Two human cases of tick bite caused by Ixodes nipponensis.
We report two human cases of tick bite. A 63-year-old male had a pruritic pea-sized brownish nodule on the left popliteal area. Another 41-year-old male had an asymptomatic bean-sized black nodule in the pubic area. The ticks were identified as Ixodes nipponensis, which are the 18th and the 19th cases in Korea.

Five cases of fatal babesiosis in free-ranging chamois (Rupicapra r. rupicapra) attributed to infections with Babesia capreoli were recently recorded in two regions of the Swiss Alps. To investigate the ecologic factors that possibly lead to those fatal B. capreoli infections in chamois, blood, ticks, and demographic data of 46 roe deer (Capreolus c. capreolus), 48 chamois, and nine red deer (C...
متن کاملBabesia spp. in European wild ruminant species: parasite diversity and risk factors for infection
Babesia are tick-borne parasites that are increasingly considered as a threat to animal and public health. We aimed to assess the role of European free-ranging wild ruminants as maintenance mammalian hosts for Babesia species and to determine risk factors for infection. EDTA blood was collected from 222 roe deer (Capreolus c. capreolus), 231 red deer (Cervus e. elaphus), 267 Alpine chamois (Rup...
متن کاملEffect of deer reduction on abundance of the deer tick (Ixodes dammini).
To evaluate the role of deer in regulating the abundance of the deer tick (Ixodes dammini) we attempted to treat with acaricide, but eventually removed, about 70 percent of deer from Great Island, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Deer were captured in box traps, a corral, an entanglement net, and with rifle-fired tranquilizer. Failure of these attempts, combined with ineffective acaricides, led us to d...
متن کاملBabesia sp. EU1 from Roe Deer and Transmission within Ixodes ricinus
We report in vitro culture of zoonotic Babesia sp. EU1 from blood samples of roe deer in France. This study provides evidence of transovarial and transstadial transmission of the parasite within Ixodes ricinus, which suggests that this tick could be a vector and reservoir of EU1.
