Identification and Hierarchy of Traditional Village Characteristics Based on Concentrated Contiguous Development—Taking 206 Traditional Villages in Hubei Province as an Example

Public policy for the preservation and development of traditional villages in China has witnessed a shift. That is from equal distribution finances to officially recognised prioritisation more potential that stimulate surrounding regions. This study takes 206 Hubei Province as an example proposes method framework ‘Feature identification, Hierarchical classification (FIHC) combines field research, spatial geography network methods. The results show province are unevenly distributed, mainly along mountain ranges east west, with scattered central plains. kernel density result reveals “3 + 2 high-density hotspot zones” (A, B, C areas, whereas D E low-density areas). Furthermore, appear villages’ ecological situation Zone A better than other but their transportation accessibility economy poor; B areas; best economy; three conditions zones poor. FIHC can identify stratify these multidimensional way. It innovative important contribution policymakers planners developing ‘phased focused’ public policies rural planning.
