Temperature in the stability of blood gases.

We read with interest in the April 1993 issue of Chest the artide by Liss and Payne’ on “Stability of Blood Gases in Ice and at Room Temperature.” Although some authors would agree that the small changes observed in Pco , and pH when the arterial blood samples were kept at room temperature make it unnecessary to maintain arterial blood in ice if gas analysis is done within 30 mm, several commen...

Stability of blood gases in ice and at room temperature.

Arterial blood samples from 75 patients were analyzed for PO2, PCO2, and pH at 0, 15, and 30 min. After the baseline analysis, 60 samples were kept in ice while 59 samples were left at room temperature. There was a statistically significant increase in the PO2 at 15 min and again at 30 min in both groups. There was a statistically significant decrease in the PCO2 at 15 min in both groups. There...

A simple method to predict body temperature of small reptiles from environmental temperature

To study behavioral thermoregulation, it is useful to use thermal sensors and physical models to collect environmental temperatures that are used to predict organism body temperature. Many techniques involve expensive or numerous types of sensors (cast copper models, or temperature, humidity, radiation, and wind speed sensors) to collect the microhabitat data necessary to predict body temperatu...

Acute effects of zolpidem, triazolam and flunitrazepam on arterial blood gases and control of breathing in severe COPD.

Patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) commonly complain of insomnia, but hypnotic drugs are generally not recommended due to their depressant effect on the respiratory centres. The aim of this study was, therefore, to compare the effects of a single dose of the benzodiazepine hypnotics, triazolam 0.25 mg and flunitrazepam 1 mg, and a new imidazopyridine compound, zol...
