چکیده

Objective: The thyroid gland has a very important role in hematopoiesis. Blood disorders are frequently seen patients with dysfunction and anemia is more common them. Thyroid hormones directly affect blood parameters by stimulating erythrocyte precursors indirectly enhancing erythropoietin production. present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of hypothyroidism on different hematological parameters. Methods: This prospective observational which included total two hundred individuals. They enrolled divided into equal groups; each group consists one first cases hypothyroidism, whose cell indices compared healthy individuals as control second group. Patients diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, congenital disorders, malignancies, hemolytic anemia’s, aplastic anemia, leukemias dyscrasias were excluded from study. Results: analysis showed significant difference hemoglobin, RBC count, hematocrit (HCT), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), hemoglobin (MCH), concentration (MCHC), red distribution width (RDW) (p values 0.000, 0.002, 0.022), respectively, while platelets WBC no correlation 0.410 0.6420). Conclusion: In this study, most hypothyroid significantly low, except RDW levels high among Platelet count less affected when controls, indicates that associated hypothyroidism. follow-up should include complete diagnosed also be evaluated for before iron therapy or any other therapies. Cases not responding treatment investigated possibility dysfunction.
