Hypothalamo-Pituitary-Adrenal Axis in Depressive Disorders and Treatment Resistance

چکیده
Background: hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis plays an important role in the pathogenesis of depression. Patterns HPA functioning depend on both biologic factors and psychological background, which, taken together, may increase risk depression later on. Objective: to analyze scientific publications pathophysiology depression, linked disruption, assess causal relationship between hypercorticism clinical symptoms course depressive disorder. Material methods: according key words “hypercortiсism”, “depression disorder”, “cortisol”, “treatment resistant depression”, “Cushing’s syndrome”, “Сushing’s disease”, a search was conducted for databases Medline/ PubMed, Scopus, Web Science, RSCI other resources. Conclusion: there is high comorbidity disorders abnormalities, including endocrine with increased decreased cortisol secretion. Hypercorticism related Сushing’s disease or Cushing’s syndrome often associated irreversible mental disorders, especially anxiety which persist after normalization levels. Depressive patients are characterized by persistently elevated levels their non-supression 1 mg dexamethasone suppression test (DST); however, sometimes they have reduced The possible mechanisms discussed. Beside hypercorticism, level adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) secretion ACTH CRH stimulation demonstrated. It has been demonstrated that elevation precede development as such can be used marker risk. promote its severity transform ation symptoms. Spinal and supraspinal analgesic effects of Nimodipine : The role of Hypothalamo-Pituitary-Adrenal(HPA) axis .
Nimodipine, an L-type calcium channel blocker, can induce analgesia. However, it is not clear that this analgesic effect is at the level of spinal or supraspinal pain pathway. In addition, it has been reported that the analgesic effect of nifedipine, another L-type calcium channel blocker is related to the HPA axis, but there is no report indicating the role of this axis in the analgesic eff...
متن کاملDevelopmental Disorders of the Hypothalamo-Pituitary Axis
Short stature is defined by a height that lies <-2SDS below the mean. Recent molecular advances have led to the identification of the underlying aetiology in a number of cases that were previously believed to be “idiopathic”. This review will briefly discuss the advances in the field of pituitary development and the GH-IGF-1 axis that have led to the unravelling of the genetic basis to a number...
متن کاملStudy of hypothalamo pituitary adrenal axis in frail elderly subjects.
BACKGROUND Frail elderly people are at increased risk of death and disability from minor environmental stresses such as infection because they do not have the reserves to respond and maintain adequate homeostasis Studies have shown that elderly patients had a significantly smaller response to ACTH stimulation test. Due to paucity of data regarding HPA axis functioning in frail elderly in Indian...
متن کاملIntroduction to the Hypothalamo- Pituitary-adrenal (hpa) Axis
OBJECTIVES: • Identify appropriate hypothalamic factors that control the secretion of each of the anterior pituitary hormones, and describe their route of transport from the hypothalamus to the anterior pituitary. • Contrast the anterior and posterior pituitary lobes with respect to cell types, vascular supply, development, and innervation (hypothalamic). • Diagram the short-loop and long-loop ...
متن کاملThyroid hormone therapy modulates hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis.
To observe the influence of thyroid hormone therapy on hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, a group of 14 athyreotic women due to thyroid cancer treatment were studied before and after thyroid suppression therapy with thyroxine (T4). Changes in plasma adrenocorticotropin (ACTH) and cortisol levels in response to human corticotropin-releasing hormone (hCRH; 100µg, i.v.) were estimated under...
