Hygrothermal assessment of internally insulated historic solid masonry walls with focus on the thermal bridge due to internal partition walls

چکیده

Abstract This study investigated the hygrothermal performance of five insulation systems for internal retrofitting purposes. Focus was on near partition brick walls compared to middle wall. The setup comprised two insulated reefer containers with controlled indoor climate, reconfigured several holes containing solid masonry interior embedded wooden elements, an wall and different systems, without exterior hydrophobisation. Relative humidity temperature were measured over years in masonry/insulation interface surface, centre test field In addition, calibrated numerical simulations performed further investigation thermal bridge effect. Findings showed higher temperatures lower relative comparison central part Near measurements only minor differences between locations. effect smaller case a high driving rain load surfaces. that conditions affected away from than what could be experimental setup.

Homogenization of Interlocking Masonry Walls

In a previous publication the authors proposed a continuous model for describing the mechanical behaviour of ‘Running Bond’ masonry walls. Here a different masonry structure is considered. This structure is ‘bi-atomic’ in the sense that its pattern consists in two kind of blocks with different. The homogenization by differential expansions technique is used for obtaining an equivalent Cosserat ...

Retrofitting Masonry Walls with Carbon Mesh

Static-cyclic shear load tests and tensile tests on retrofitted masonry walls were conducted at UAS Fribourg for an evaluation of the newly developed retrofitting system, the S&P ARMO-System. This retrofitting system consists of a composite of carbon mesh embedded in a specially adapted high quality spray mortar. It can be applied with established construction techniques using traditional const...

Multi-scale analysis of masonry walls

Masonry is a heterogeneous structural material which exhibits a complex behaviour with potential cracking in each of its phases. Its structure (geometrical arrangement of mortar joints, quasi-brittle constituents) causes the appearance of complex composite failure modes with loading path dependence and strong damage-induced anisotropy effects. Large scale computations for masonry structures req...

Polarimetric radar signature of masonry walls

A ground-penetrating radar with polarimetric capability has been used for investigating masonry walls. The obtained results show that hollow spaces inside masonry give a well-detectable polarimetric signature that can be usefully used for detecting internal cavities in walls, and for characterizing the masonry. r 2007 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
