Hydrothermal Synthesis of Nanostructured V2O5 Material for Photocatalytic Applications: Effect of Surfactants

In the study, nanostructured V2O5 photocatalyst was prepared by a hydrothermal process followed calcination with addition of various surfactants to precursor solution. The synthesized nanomaterials were investigated scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), and ultraviolet - visible spectroscopy (UV-vis). SEM images XRD showed that different morphologies crystallized in orthorhombic phase successfully synthesized. FTIR spectrum gives characteristic oscillations chemical bonds V2O5, containing V-O-V vibration. UV-Vis determines band gap energy accordance bandgap value V2O5. particular, results demonstrated surfactant had strong effect on morphology, surface chemistry photocatalysts. comparison between three dodecyl sulfate sodium, pluronic P123, CTAB SDS produced most efficient is beneficial improve agglomeration. Under illumination Compact lamp, product using removal could reach up 90% Methylene Blue solution after 120 minutes.
