Hydrophobization of Cationic Cellulose Nanofiber Using Rosin Sizing Agent

This study was conducted to explore a new method for imparting hydrophobicity cellulose nanofiber (CNF) using rosin sizing agent. Anionic CNF made from hardwood bleached kraft pulp by micro-grinding; this anionic then used prepare cationic through quaternization. The hydrophobization of CNFs performed adding the agent and CNFs. zeta-potentials were measured identify adsorption rate in films containing rosin-sizing contact angle, FT-IR spectra burst strength analyzed after heat treatment cure agent.The zeta-potential decreased with addition agent, however there no significant change CNF. After films, angle film 95°, which higher than that film. These results indicated adsorbed more on CNF, showed same trend. highest value at 3% dosage. Therefore, it concluded effective dosage should be less simultaneously maintain high
