Hydrological Shifts Threaten Water Resources

نویسندگان

چکیده

Recent shifts in the hydrological behavior of natural watersheds suggest acute challenges for water planning under climate change. Usually triggered by a multi-year drought, these involve tendency less annual streamflow given precipitation, and this has now been reported on multiple continents. Future drying change may induce similar unexpected responses, commentary discusses implications management. Commonly used models poorly represent cannot be relied upon to anticipate future changes. Thus, their use result underestimation hydroclimatic risk exposure “surprise” reductions supply, relative projections. The onus is hydrologists determine underlying causes shifting incorporate more dynamic realism into operational models.

Global hydrological cycles and world water resources.

Water is a naturally circulating resource that is constantly recharged. Therefore, even though the stocks of water in natural and artificial reservoirs are helpful to increase the available water resources for human society, the flow of water should be the main focus in water resources assessments. The climate system puts an upper limit on the circulation rate of available renewable freshwater ...

determination for risks in hydrological and water resources projects.

statistical analysis is used in hydrology where variables and processes are observed and stated in terms of numbers. the majority of hydrologic phenomena in nature, such as precipitation, runoff, evaporation, sediment transport, water quality properties, elc., are stochastic processes. however, in considering events on an annual basis, the occurence of the events may be assumed independant and ...

Hydrological Appraisal of Climate Change Impacts on the Water Resources of the Xijiang Basin, South China

Assessing the impact of climate change on streamflow is critical to understanding the changes to water resources and to improve water resource management. The use of hydrological models is a common practice to quantify and assess water resources in such situations. In this study, two hydrological models with different structures, e.g., a physically-based distributed model Liuxihe (LXH) and a lu...
