The M⋯HO axial interaction in the isoleptic and isoelectronic square-planar compounds [(CF3)3Pt(hq)]− (CF3)3Au(hq) turns from attractive (M = Pt) to repulsive Au), evidencing ligand-field inversion when going Pt Au.
