Hydroclimatology of the Kaduna River Basin

چکیده
This study examined the hydroclimatology of Kaduna River Basin (KRB) in northern Nigeria. In achieving this, monthly data on temperature (T) and rainfall (P) were sourced from ten hydrometeorological stations across basin 1990 to 2018. DrinC (Drought Indices Calculator) software was deployed calculate Potential Evapotranspiration (PET) adopting Thornthwaite approach. Water Balance (WB) model used further estimate other WB components i.e. soil moisture (SM), actual evapotranspiration (ETa), surplus (S) Runoff (R). are examine temporal spatial variability KRB for hydrological years (1990-2018). divided into two sub-basins (Lower Upper KRB). The analyses indicated peak R generally occurs during wet season (i.e. April through October) most especially at KRB. reveals that runoff efficiencies imply November March) while majority S is generated months, particularly October when ~95% average with August. results this provide a baseline understanding which can be as starting point analyses, water resources management.

Asymmetric responses of land hydroclimatology to two types of El Nio in the Mississippi River Basin
El Niño events play important roles in influencing the hydroclimatology over the Mississippi River Basin (MRB). This study shows that the two types of El Niño events, the central Pacific (CP) El Niño and eastern Pacific (EP) El Niño, have opposite effects on spring soil water hydrology in the MRB. Above-normal spring (March) precipitation during EP El Niño years leads to higher soil water level...

Introduction The territory of central Iran is now affected by the hot and dry climate. But, several evidences, such as the extreme erosion of running waters, huge alluvial fans, wide alluvial terraces, and flood deposits indicate colder and wetter climate in the territory (Ghahroodi Tali, 2011: 3). The rivers belong to the most important parts of the sedimentary basin. In fact, the rivers are...
متن کاملDigital Spatial Data as Support for River Basin Management: the Case of Sotla River Basin
Many real-world spatially related problems, including river-basin planning and management, give rise to geographical information system based decision making, since the performance of spatial policy alternatives were traditionally and are still often represented by thematic maps. Advanced technologies and approaches, such as geographical information systems (GIS), offer a unique opportunity to ...
