Hydrate Formation on Marine Seep Bubbles and the Implications for Water Column Methane Dissolution

چکیده

Methane released from seafloor seeps contributes to a number of benthic, water column, and atmospheric processes. At within the methane hydrate stability zone, crystalline gas shells can form on bubbles while are still in contact with or as begin ascending through column. These reduce dissolution rates, allowing hydrate-coated deliver shallower depths column than hydrate-free bubbles. Here, we analyze videos six deepwater seep sites associated diverse range bubble-release processes involving formation. Bubbles that grow rapidly often when seafloor. As bubble growth slows residence time increases, coating bubble's gas-water interface, fully most ?10 s onset formation at This finding agrees water-column observations become after their initial ?150 cm rise, which takes about 10 s. Whether is coated not affects how much contains quickly dissolves during rise A simplified model shows that, rising 150 above seafloor, grew shell before releasing will have ?5% more equal volume did it traveled same height.

Seeding Hydrate Formation in Water-saturated Sand with Dissolved-phase Methane Obtained from Hydrate Dissolution: a Progress Report

An isobaric flow loop added to the Gas Hydrate And Sediment Test Laboratory Instrument (GHASTLI) is being investigated as a means of rapidly forming methane hydrate in watersaturated sand from methane dissolved in water. Water circulates through a relatively warm source chamber, dissolving granular methane hydrate that was pre-made from seed ice, then enters a colder hydrate growth chamber wher...

Methane Hydrate Formation in Marine Sediment from South China Sea with Different Water Saturations

The kinetics of methane hydrate formation in marine sediments with different water saturations are important to assess the feasibility of the hydrate production and understand the process of the secondary hydrate formation in the gas production from hydrate reservoir. In this paper, the behaviors of methane hydrate formation in marine sediments from the South China Sea at different water satura...

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

Miniaturized biosignature analysis reveals implications for the formation of cold seep carbonates at Hydrate Ridge

Methane-related carbonates from Hydrate Ridge typically show several macroscopically distinguishable mineral phases, namely whitish aragonite, lucent aragonite, and gray micrite. The relationship of these phases to particular microorganisms or biogeochemical processes is as yet unclear. We used a miniaturized biomarker technique on mg samples, combined with factor analysis and subsequent electr...
