چکیده
This paper presents a hybrid Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) – Finite Element Method (FEM) solver for metal cutting simulations on Graphics Processing Units (GPU). For the first time in chip formation simulation, heat transfer between an SPH model of workpiece, and transient FEM temperature tool, is established. validation, performance modeled thermal contact two numerical domains compared with commercial software. The sensitivity implemented SPH-FEM parameters investigated further insights into modeling are generated. Overall, newly developed saves computational tool side pure method enables more efficient high-fidelity simulations. By clearly defining at tool-chip interface, simulated surface agrees well experimental measurements literature.

Efficient GPU-based implementation of a Pressure Solver for Incompressible SPH Fluid Simulations
To simulate incompressible flows using SPH, one has to use a discretitized variant of the NavierStokes-Equations for particles. To reach a stable and convergant simulation, the timestep has to be severly limited, especially through the pressure term. To dampen this limitation, various approaches where developed in computergraphics. One of these approaches is the Implicit Incompressible SPH (IIS...
متن کاملFast GPU-Based Fluid Simulations Using SPH
Graphical Processing Units (GPUs) are massive floatingpoint stream processors, and through the recent development of tools such as CUDA and OpenCL it has become possible to fully utilize them for scientific computing. We have developed an open-source CUDA-based acceleration framework for 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH). This paper describes the ...
متن کاملImplicit Incompressible SPH on the GPU
This paper presents CUDA-based parallelization of implicit incompressible SPH (IISPH) on the GPU. Along with the detailed exposition of our implementation, we analyze various components involved for their costs. We show that our CUDA version achieves near linear scaling with the number of particles and is faster than the multi-core parallelized IISPH on the CPU. We also present a basic comparis...
متن کاملMulti-GPU Implementation of a Hybrid Thermal Lattice Boltzmann Solver using the TheLMA Framework
In this contribution, a single-node multi-GPU thermal lattice Boltzmann solver is presented. The program is based on the TheLMA framework which was developed for the purpose. The chosen implementation and optimisation strategies are described, both for inter-GPU communication and for coupling with the thermal component of the model. Validation and performance results are provided as well.
متن کاملA GPU-accelerated Navier-Stokes Solver for Steady Turbomachinery Simulations
Any tiny improvement of modern turbomachinery components require nowadays a large amount of design evaluations. Every evaluation runs time consuming simulations. Reducing the computational cost of the simulations allows to run more evaluations, thus reaching a higher design improvement. In this work, an Nvidia Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) of Kepler generation is used to accelerate the FiniteV...
