Hybrid Relay-Reflecting Intelligent Surface-Assisted Wireless Communications

چکیده
Reconfigurable intelligentsurface (RIS) has emerged as a cost- and energy-efficient solution to enhance the wireless communications capacity. However, recent studies show that very large surface is required for RIS-assisted system; otherwise, they may be outperformed by conventional relay. Furthermore, performance gain of RIS can considerably degraded hardware impairments such limited-resolution phase shifters. To overcome those challenges, we propose hybrid relay-reflecting intelligent (HR-RIS) architecture, in which single or few elements serve active relays, while remaining only reflect incident signals. We two HR-RIS architectures, namely, fixed dynamic HR-RIS. The joint transmit beamforming at base station are designed based on alternating optimization successive convex approximation methods. simulation results $4 \times 2$ multiple-input multiple-output system proposed with element achieve about 40% 25% improvement spectral efficiency energy efficiency, respectively, respect RIS-aided system. also outperform relaying scheme most considered scenarios.

Relay-Assisted Scheduling in Wireless Networks with Hybrid-ARQ
This paper studies the problem of relay-assisted user scheduling for downlink wireless transmission. The transmitting base station or access point employs hybrid automatic-repeat-request (ARQ) transmission with the possible assistance of a set of fixed relays to serve a set of mobile users. By minimizing a cost function that depends on the queue lengths at the base station and the number of ret...
متن کاملRelay-Assisted Free-Space Optical Communications
The atmospheric lightwave propagation is considerably influenced by the random variations in the refractive index of air pockets due to turbulence. This undesired effect significantly degrades the performance of free-space optical (FSO) communication systems. Interestingly, the severity of such random degradations is highly related to the range of atmospheric propagation. In this thesis, we int...

The nature of human mobility demands that mobile devices become agile to diverse operating environments. Coping with such diversity requires the device to assess its environment, and trigger appropriate responses to each of them. While existing communication subsystems rely on in-band wireless signals for context-assessment and response, we explore a lateral approach of using out-of-band sensor...

متن کاملSpectrum and Infrastructure Sharing in Wireless Networks: A Case Study with Relay-Assisted Communications
Physical resource sharing between wireless operators and service providers can be used to support efficient, competitive, and innovative wireless communication markets. By sharing resources, which are usually exclusively allocated such as spectrum or infrastructure, interference is created on the physical layer. Handling this new type of interference poses a significant and novel challenge to t...
