Hybrid LiFi and WiFi Networks: A Survey

In order to tackle the rapidly growing number of mobile devices and their expanding demands for Internet services, network convergence is envisaged integrate different technology domains. For indoor wireless communications, one promising approach coordinate light fidelity (LiFi) (WiFi), namely hybrid LiFi WiFi networks (HLWNets). This combines high-speed data transmission ubiquitous coverage WiFi. this article, we present a survey-style introduction HLWNets, starting with framework system design in aspects architectures, cell deployments, multiple access modulation schemes, illumination requirements backhaul. Key performance metrics recent achievements are then reviewed demonstrate superiority HLWNets against stand-alone networks. Further, unique challenges facing elaborated on key research topics including user behavior modeling, interference management, handover load balancing. Moreover, potential application areas presented, exemplified by positioning physical layer security. Finally, future directions discussed.
