Hybrid Active and Passive Sensing for SLAM in Wireless Communication Systems

Integrating sensing functions into future mobile equipment has become an important trend. Realizing different types of and achieving mutual enhancement under the existing communication hardware architecture is a crucial challenge in realizing deep integration communication. In 5G New Radio context, active can be performed through uplink beam sweeping on user (UE) side to observe surrounding environment. addition, UE perform passive downlink channel estimation measure multipath component (MPC) information. This study first develop hybrid simultaneous localization mapping (SLAM) mechanism that combines sensing, which between two modes realized systems. Specifically, we establish common feature associated with reflective surface bridge thus enabling information fusion. Based feature, attain physical anchor initialization MPC assistance sensing. Then, extend classic probabilistic data association SLAM achieve continuously refine target reflections subsequent Numerical results show proposed sensing-based work successfully tricky scenarios without any prior floor plan, anchors, or agents. Moreover, algorithm demonstrates significant performance gains compared only mechanisms.
