Hume’s Thoroughly Relationist Ontology of Time

چکیده
Abstract I argue that Hume’s philosophy of time is relationist in the following two senses. 1) Standard definition relationism . Time a succession indivisible moments. Hence there no independent change. relational, not substantial feature world. 2) Rigid There evidence uniform natural standard for synchronization clocks. No absolute temporal metric available. are countless times, and privileged. Combining shows ontology thoroughly relationist.

A relationist and descriptive approach to stationary time series
This article addresses the issue of building discrete topological spaces from continuous data measured on a complex system and then the statistical characterization of the obtained space. As an illustration, the sensitivity of graphs properties to thresholding is analysed. A possible way to cope with that flaw is the multilevel point of view. We extend this approach to n-ary relations using sim...

متن کاملThoroughly Mixed Yet Thoroughly Ethnic: Indexing Class with Ethnonyms
This article considers the roles played by ethnic mentions, or ethnonyms, in the discursive reconstruction of a former neighborhood in Easton, Pennsylvania, “Syrian Town.” We argue that these labels engage in the production of ethnic difference by depicting a social world composed of discrete types while presupposing a local class divide and a contrasting neighborhood imagined as elite and priv...
متن کاملThoroughly Knotted Homology Spheres
For H n a homology n-sphere, consider the problem of classifying locally flat imbeddings H n•'-• S n+2 up to isotopy. Since any imbedding may be altered by adding knots S n• S n+2, the classification problem is at least as complex as the isotopy classification of knots. Elsewhere [8] we show that there is a natural correspondence between k ot heory and the classification of those imbeddings H n...
