Human skin microbiota-friendly lysostaphin

چکیده

Growing antibiotic resistance of bacteria is a burning problem human and veterinary medicine. Expansion introduction novel microbicidal therapeutics highly desirable. However, treatment disturbs the balance physiological microbiota by changing its qualitative and/or quantitative composition, resulting in number adverse effects that include secondary infections. Although such dysbiosis may be reversed with probiotics, more attractive alternative use antibiotics target only pathogens, while sparing commensals. Here, we describe lysostaphin LSp222, an enzyme produced naturally Staphylococcus pseudintermedius 222. LSp222 effective against S. aureus, including multi-drug resistant strains. Importantly, inhibitory concentration for epidermidis, predominant commensal healthy skin, at least two orders magnitude higher compared to aureus. Such significant therapeutic window makes microbiota-friendly antibacterial agent potential application aureus-driven skin

Composition of Human Skin Microbiota Affects Attractiveness to Malaria Mosquitoes

The African malaria mosquito Anopheles gambiae sensu stricto continues to play an important role in malaria transmission, which is aggravated by its high degree of anthropophily, making it among the foremost vectors of this disease. In the current study we set out to unravel the strong association between this mosquito species and human beings, as it is determined by odorant cues derived from t...

A diversity profile of the human skin microbiota.

The many layers and structures of the skin serve as elaborate hosts to microbes, including a diversity of commensal and pathogenic bacteria that contribute to both human health and disease. To determine the complexity and identity of the microbes inhabiting the skin, we sequenced bacterial 16S small-subunit ribosomal RNA genes isolated from the inner elbow of five healthy human subjects. This a...

Athletic equipment microbiota are shaped by interactions with human skin

BACKGROUND Americans spend the vast majority of their lives in built environments. Even traditionally outdoor pursuits, such as exercising, are often now performed indoors. Bacteria that colonize these indoor ecosystems are primarily derived from the human microbiome. The modes of human interaction with indoor surfaces and the physical conditions associated with each surface type determine the ...

Human Skin Microbiota: High Diversity of DNA Viruses Identified on the Human Skin by High Throughput Sequencing

The human skin is a complex ecosystem that hosts a heterogeneous flora. Until recently, the diversity of the cutaneous microbiota was mainly investigated for bacteria through culture based assays subsequently confirmed by molecular techniques. There are now many evidences that viruses represent a significant part of the cutaneous flora as demonstrated by the asymptomatic carriage of beta and ga...

Managing Amphibian Disease with Skin Microbiota.

The contribution of emerging amphibian diseases to the sixth mass extinction is driving innovative wildlife management strategies, including the use of probiotics. Bioaugmentation of the skin mucosome, a dynamic environment including host and microbial components, may not provide a generalized solution. Multi-omics technologies and ecological context underlie effective implementation.
