Whole body glucose metabolism.
This review describes major factors that, singly or together, influence the concentration and distribution of D-glucose in mammals, particularly in humans, with emphasis on rest, physical activity, and alimentation. It identifies areas of uncertainty: distribution and concentrations of glucose in interstitial fluid, kinetics and mechanism of transcapillary glucose transport, kinetics and mechan...
متن کاملMyocardial and Body Metabolism
Cellular energy substrates and metabolites, electrolytes, oxygenation, and acid-base balance, in arterial and coronary sinus blood of seven adult patients who died after valvular replacements, were studied and compared with these measurements from five patients having aortic replacement who survived. Six of the patients were in New York Heart Association class IV. All but one died within 24 hr ...
متن کاملExergy use in bioenergetics
Every developed and adapted biological system extracts useful energy from outside, converts, stores it, and uses for muscular contraction, substrate transport, protein synthesis, and other energy utilizing processes. This energy management in a living cell is called the bioenergetics, and the useful energy is the exergy, which is destroyed in every irreversible process because of the entropy pr...
متن کاملExergy Representations in Thermodynamics
The paper reviews various representations of exergy and exergy losses in energy systems going from simple heat exchanger (heat transfer, dissipation and embedded exergy) to the exergy of full energy systems from fossil or non fossil resources (including the diffusion exergy). The systems shown include shell in tube heat exchangers, thermal power cycles, cogeneration, heat pump direct heating sy...
متن کاملFractal Representation of Exergy
We developed a geometrical model to represent the thermodynamic concepts of exergy and anergy. The model leads to multi-scale energy lines (correlons) that we characterised by fractal dimension and entropy analyses. A specific attention will be paid to overlapping points, rising interesting remarks about trans-scale dynamics of heat flows.
