Abstract Two radically different descriptions of immigrant earnings trajectories in the USA have emerged. One asserts that men, following 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act, low initial high growth. Another post-1965 immigrants We describe methodological issues create this divide show growth becomes when are followed from their years USA; is allowed to vary with entry earnings; and—when cohorts instead individuals—sample restrictions commonly used by labor economists avoided.
