How individuals become agents of change in old industrial regions

As a result of the decline key economic sectors, old industrial towns face several development challenges, reinforcing perception these places as peripheral. However, even in context Ústí nad Labem Region post-socialist Czechia, local people are addressing locally specific issues to facilitate positive change. These actors (known ‘agents change’) mobilise diverse resources through their actions. This study shows that build an individual capacity act, inspiration and knowledge transfer from professional geographical structures more important than formal education. To finance initiatives, agents use informal investments provided by friends family, but later they exploit subsidies public sector. In terms social capital, high-quality collaboration between locals is crucial factor for change, yet regional governments often fail coordinators leaders change agency.
