How far can we get with eco driving tech?

Individual, car-based mobility contributes significantly to worldwide greenhouse gas emissions. Driving style accounts for up 30% of fuel consumption and manufacturers have implemented technologies such as energy-efficient “eco” driving modes reduce Here we report evidence from a field experiment with battery-electric vehicles. Two behavioral interventions, changing the mode's default on informing drivers about frequency other people's usage mode, i.e. providing descriptive social norm, successfully increased eco mode usage. However, cars' acceleration energy remained unaffected due rebound, were instead predicted by situational factor, trip distance. While interventions proved effective, results suggest that technological aiming environmental impacts might focus more strongly alterations rather than dispositional factors people or cars.
