How Does Nitrogen Application Rate Affect Plant Functional Traits and Crop Growth Rate of Perennial Ryegrass-Dominated Permanent Pastures?

چکیده

High doses of nitrogen (N) fertiliser input on permanent pastures are crucial in terms N surplus and losses. Quantitative analyses the response plant functional traits (PFT) driving crop growth rate (CGR) under low lacking frequently defoliated pastures. This study aimed to understand significance PFTs for productivity uptake grasslands by measuring dynamics tiller density (TD), weight (TW), leaf ratio (LWR), area index (LAI), specific (SLA), as well content per unit mass (LNCm) (LNCa) perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne)-dominated pastures, a simulated rotational grazing approach over two consecutive growing seasons. Annual application rates were 0, 140 280 kg ha?1. The phenological development was main driver CGR, most PFTs. effect varied during season. showed greatest TD, LAI and, lesser extent, SLA LNCm. results this highlight importance TD its role CGR

Does nitrogen fertilizer application rate to corn affect nitrous oxide emissions from the rotated soybean crop?

Little information exists on the potential for N fertilizer application to corn ( L.) to affect NO emissions during subsequent unfertilized crops in a rotation. To determine if N fertilizer application to corn affects NO emissions during subsequent crops in rotation, we measured NO emissions for 3 yr (2011-2013) in an Iowa, corn-soybean [ (L.) Merr.] rotation with three N fertilizer rates appli...

Growth Characteristics of Perennial Ryegrass

Mature perennial ryegrass plants in pastures persist through the asexual reproduction of the tiller. Leaves are initiated from the flanks of the tiller stem apex. Generally, two leaves arc growing on a tiller at any one time. New tiller buds may arise from the axils of mature leaves depending on environmental conditions. Flowering results from a physiological change at the stem apex, which then...

The Effect of Nitrogen Rate and Plant Density on Morphological Traits and Essential Oil Yield of Coriander

In order to study the effect of nitrogen rate and plant density on morphological traits and essential oil and fruit yield of coriander, a split-plot experiment was carried out in research field of Islamic Azad University, Birjand Branch, Birjand, Iran in 2010 based on a randomized complete block design with three replications. The main plots were nitrogen rates at four levels (0, 40, 80 and 120...

Forages and pastures symposium: fungal endophytes of tall fescue and perennial ryegrass: pasture friend or foe?

Tall fescue [Lolium arundinaceum (Schreb.) Darbysh. syn. Festuca arundinacea Schreb.] and perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) are important perennial forage grasses utilized throughout the moderate- to high-rainfall temperate zones of the world. These grasses have coevolved with symbiotic fungal endophytes (Epichloë/Neotyphodium spp.) that can impart bioactive properties and environmental st...
