چکیده
The objective of this research was to study the effects size and spat origin farmed Mytilus galloprovinciallis in mussel longlines east Bou-Ismail Bay (central coastal Algeria, south-western Mediterranean). conducted from October 2017 July 2020 Bay. were obtained four sites (Tlemcen, Tenes, Ain Tagourait site) seeded on three sizes (10–30, 30–60 >60 mm). production performance species analysed 284 random plots using average physical product (APP), gain loss rates, condition index (CI), percentage edibility (PE) shell thickness (STI). Apart CI rate, indicators showed significant differences according source (p < 0.05). Overall, highest APP (4.3) recorded for small mussels (10–30) mm those originating Tlemcen, near finfish cages (APP = 4.14). These individuals exhibited more efficient growth physiology commercial performed better than collected at site. results can be considered a valid contribution best farming practice optimising Algeria. It also contributes development integrated multitrophic aquaculture (IMTA) methodology, which is suitable use oligotrophic Western Mediterranean.

trossulus) and use as fishing bait have long been supported in the northeastern United States by a small-scale fishery supplying largely niche markets. Mussels have been consumed since pre-colonial times and served as a ready supply of inexpensive seafood protein during wartime periods (1917 and 1942) in America (Miller, 1980). Markets for mussels expanded in the 1970s and 1980s leading to the ...
متن کاملHow does tidal flow affect pattern formation in mussel beds?
In the Wadden Sea, mussel beds self-organise into spatial patterns consisting of bands parallel to the shore. A leading explanation for this phenomenon is that mussel aggregation reduces losses from dislodgement and predation, because of the adherence of mussels to one another. Previous mathematical modelling has shown that this can lead to spatial patterning when it is coupled to the advection...
متن کاملCarrying Capacity for Shellfish Aquaculture with Reference to Mussel Aquaculture in Malpeque Bay, Prince
In Prince Edward Island (PEI), shellfish (bivalves comprised of mussel and oyster) aquaculture production occurs in sheltered, generally shallow bays. The productive capacity of a bay for shellfish aquaculture is determined by many factors including the hydrodynamics of the bay and input of nutrients. There is considered to be a limit to the production (biomass) that can be extracted from an ar...
متن کاملWestern Mediterranean coastal waters--monitoring PCBs and pesticides accumulation in Mytilus galloprovincialis by active mussel watching: the Mytilos project.
In order to evaluate the contamination levels in the Western Mediterranean basin, the active mussel watch methodology has been applied. This methodology consists of mussel transplantation (Mytilus galloprovincialis) from non impacted areas to selected coastal areas, characterised by potential impact from the continent due to contaminating sources. The areas of interest were selected along the e...
