How Did This Happen? Xenograft Conversion to Dermal Scaffolding after Scalding Grease Burn

Xenograft and other biologic dressings have been an integral part of burn care for many years. Porcine graft is both inexpensive and, partial thickness burns, provides the additional benefit avoiding painful dressing changes when compared with topical agents. In this case, we discuss a patient suffering from deep burns whom xenograft was used initial wound coverage. This porcine became unexpectedly incorporated, ultimately underwent operative debridement autologous re-grafting. The case demonstrates gap in understanding wound-healing mechanisms around xenografts raises potential future innovation expedited healing using xenografting.
