House Prices and Marriage in Spain

The aim of this study is to examine the link between house prices and marriage in Spain. We consider data from 50 Spanish provinces (NUTS III regions) local civil registries 282 cities with populations greater than 25,000 inhabitants. regional cover 1995–2018 period, whereas sample includes information 2005 2018. rate defined as annual absolute number marriages per thousand inhabitants each region or city. used on Spain because housing market experienced a strong rise until 2006, when bubble ended dramatically decreased. By using different econometric techniques (panel models fixed effects dynamic panel models), our results reveal that there significant negative relationship at both levels. Overall, highlights important consequences rising family formations. Therefore, public authorities should try reduce fluctuations facilitate access home ownership for young couples.
