Host–Pathogen Interaction in Leishmaniasis: Immune Response and Vaccination Strategies

چکیده
Leishmaniasis is a zoonotic and vector-borne infectious disease that caused by the genus Leishmania belonging to trypanosomatid family. The protozoan parasite has digenetic life cycle involving mammalian host an insect vector. Leishmaniasisis worldwide public health problem falling under neglected tropical category, with over 90 endemic countries, approximately 1 million new cases 20,000 deaths annually. infection can progress toward development of species–specific pathologic disorders, ranging in severity from self-healing cutaneous lesions disseminating muco-cutaneous fatal visceral manifestations. outcome leishmaniasis determined parasite’s antigenic epitope characteristics, vector physiology, most importantly, immune response status host. This review examines nature host–pathogen interaction leishmaniasis, innate adaptive responses, various strategies have been employed for vaccine development.

Vaccination in Leishmaniasis: A Review Article
Leishmaniasis is caused by protozoan Leishmania parasites that are transmitted through female sandfly bites. The disease is predominantly endemic to the tropics and semi-tropics and has been reported in more than 98 countries. Due to the side effects of anti-Leishmania drugs and the emergence of drug-resistant isolates, there is currently no encouraging prospect of introducing an effective ther...
متن کاملImmune Response to Standard Hepatitis B Vaccination in HIV-Infected Patients
Background: Due to their similar routes of transmission, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) co-infection occurs considerably. HBV infection progresses more rapidly in HIV-infected patients. Therefore, HBV vaccination of all non-immune HIV infected patients is recommended. On the other hand, HIV-infected subjects have suboptimal responses to HBV vaccine. In this study...
متن کاملVaccination strategies for mucosal immune responses.
Mucosal administration of vaccines is an important approach to the induction of appropriate immune responses to microbial and other environmental antigens in systemic sites and peripheral blood as well as in most external mucosal surfaces. The development of specific antibody- or T-cell-mediated immunologic responses and the induction of mucosally induced systemic immunologic hyporesponsiveness...
متن کاملLeishmaniasis Vaccination
In the history of vaccine development, key observations have gradually led to our ability to take rational approaches toward the induction of protective immunity to microbial pathogens. The earliest efforts consisted of inoculating le-sion material into healthy individuals resulting in the then inexplicable prevention of the development of similar disease. Centuries later, after researchers fou...
