Host and microbe adaptation underlying true fungal commensalism

چکیده
Abstract Fungi are found ubiquitously in the mammalian gut however role of commensal fungi host is poorly understood. Laboratory mice used to model host-fungi interactions due ultra-clean housing they do not harbor fungi. The human fungus Candida albicans widely studied dissect host-commensal prior dysbiosis bacteria required colonize laboratory mice. Insights from such forced host-fungal unsuitable for extrapolating mechanisms underlying fungal commensalism and its breakdown. To discover natural mice, we pet-store “dirty” We that have a high burden their feces predominantly colonized by single species fungus, Kazachstania pintolopesii. Furthermore, K. pintolopesii isolated stably levels presence an intact immune system bacteria. with exhibited increased neutrophil frequency blood but did show any pathological symptoms. Surprisingly, even systemic challenge pathology indicating unique adaptations this murine host. Remarkably, significantly protected C. suggesting promote antifungal responses In summary, our work established novel unmanipulated provide insight into cellular molecular mutualism. Jean-Paul's research interest is focused on the analysis of the structure and biosynthesis of the cell wall of Aspergillus fumigatus and its interaction with the host. The A. fumigatus genome will now be used to understand multifactorial systems such as fungal virulence of an opportunistic fungus in an immunocompromised host and assembly and regulation of cell wall polymer rearrangement under t...
متن کاملHost Specificity in Microbe-Microbe Interactions
ventional monocultural crop systems often supported by high inputs of pesticides and fertilizers to sustainable agriculture. Although precise definitions of sustainable agriculture vary, one key aspect is a reduction in agrichemical inputs with a corresponding shift to alternative crop protection strategies, such as cultural practices, organic amendments, resistant or tolerant crop varieties, a...
متن کاملExpression of fluorescent proteins in Lactobacillus rhamnosus to study host–microbe and microbe–microbe interactions
Probiotic Lactobacillus strains are widely used to benefit human and animal health, although the exact mechanisms behind their interactions with the host and the microbiota are largely unknown. Fluorescent tagging of live probiotic cells is an important tool to unravel their modes of action. In this study, the implementation of different heterologously expressed fluorescent proteins for the lab...
متن کاملHost-microbe interactions: Malassezia and human skin.
The skin is our first line of defense, protecting us from invasion and evaporation. Its variable structure, changing geography, and complex immune repertoire provide a vast interface for our cutaneous microbial community. Skin is inhabited by many thousands of microbes, but this review focuses on the dominant eukaryote, Malassezia, and its host interaction. Malassezia compromises 17 species wit...
متن کاملEnvironmental disruption of host–microbe co-adaptation as a potential driving force in evolution
The microbiome is known to have a profound effect on the development, physiology and health of its host. Whether and how it also contributes to evolutionary diversification of the host is, however, unclear. Here we hypothesize that disruption of the microbiome by new stressful environments interferes with host-microbe co-adaptation, contributes to host destabilization, and can drive irreversibl...
