Honey Bee Foraging Decisions Influenced by Pear Volatiles

چکیده
The interactions between plants and pollinators are complex. Flower volatiles as special olfactory cues could influence the foraging choices of pollinators. Here, we conducted bioassays to evaluate role flower on attraction honey bees (native Apis cerana exotic mellifera) pears Pyrus bretschneideri communis). Chemical electrophysiological approaches were used determine antennal responses from pear flowers. Bioassays demonstrated that crucial for flowers; preferred forage P. communis flowers (p > 0.05), with approximately 64.37 ± 0.02% (A. 62.10 cerana) communis. Flowers yielded 27 31 compounds, respectively, 17 them being common. Honey bee antennae responded 16 chemicals, including 5 contained in both species: 1-nonanol, linalool, methyl 2-hydroxy-3-methylpentanoate, L-isoleucinate, α-farnesene. In addition, there 8 electrophysiologically active compounds bretschneideri: L-valine ester, benzaldehyde, 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one, isophorone, 2-methyl octane, longicyclene, longifolene, caryophyllene; 3 communis: β-ocimene, 4-oxoisophorone lilac alcohol D. conclusion, our study significant impact choices. This knowledge provides a basis selection pollination lays foundation further chemical communication attractiveness bees.

Genetic determinants of honey bee foraging behaviour
The amount of pollen stored in honey bee, Apis mellifera, colonies is a selectable trait. Five generations of two-way selection resulted in high and low strains that differed more than six-fold in quantities of stored pollen. Comparisons with hybrid crosses suggested that colony-level, high pollen-hoarding behaviour is inherited as a recessive trait. Colony levels of stored honey, however, show...
متن کاملCollective Decision-Making in Honey Bee Foraging Dynamics
We consider a bee colony as dynamical system gathering information from an environment and adjusting its behaviour in accordance to it. Intelligent decisionmaking emerges from enhancing the level of communication among the individuals. Since the foragers communicate information about the environment to the nest, the latter means enhancing the coupling level of colony and environment. When indiv...
متن کاملMajor quantitative trait loci affecting honey bee foraging behavior.
We identified two genomic regions that affect the amount of pollen stored in honey bee colonies and influence whether foragers will collect pollen or nectar. We selected for the amount of pollen stored in combs of honey bee colonies, a colony-level trait, and then used random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers and interval mapping procedures with data from backcross colonies to identify t...

Comprehensive information on the spatial resource use of honey bees is rare, but highly relevant to assess the consequences of habitat loss and fragmentation, agricultural intensification or extensification on colony fitness, pesticide exposure risks and pollination functions.
متن کاملAbnormal foraging behavior induced by sublethal dosage of imidacloprid in the honey bee (Hymenoptera: Apidae).
Although sublethal dosages of insecticide to nontarget insects have never been an important issue, they are attracting more and more attention lately. It has been demonstrated that low dosages of the neonicotinoid insecticide imidacloprid may affect honey bee, Apis mellifera L., behavior. In this article, the foraging behavior of the honey bee workers was investigated to show the effects of imi...
