Homophily impacts the success of vaccine roll-outs

چکیده
Abstract Physical contacts do not occur randomly, rather, individuals with similar socio-demographic and behavioral characteristics are more likely to interact among them, a phenomenon known as homophily. Concurrently, the same correlate adoption of prophylactic tools. As result, latter unfold homogeneously in population, affecting their ability control spread infectious diseases. Focusing on case vaccines, we reveal that, provided an imperfect vaccine efficacy, three different dynamical regimes exist function mixing rate between vaccinated individuals. Specifically, depending epidemic pressure, coverage find final attack decrease, increase or vary non monotonously respect rate. We corroborate phenomenology through Monte Carlo simulations temporal real-world contact network. Besides our findings hold for any tool that reduces but suppress probability transmission, indicating universal mechanism spreading dynamics.

Analysing the Impact of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems Roll-outs in Multi-National Companies
Large organisations, in particular multi-national corporations, have been at the forefront of the ERP movement since its origins. They have used these highly integrated systems as a way to achieve greater levels of standardisation of business processes across sites and greater centralisation of IT resources. The most common scenario for an ERP implementation in a large multi-national firm is th...

For Luiz Jacintho da Silva, director of the Dengue Vaccine Initiative, the spread of dengue is a matter of the gravest concern. “Over the past few decades the disease has spread dramatically,” says da Silva, noting in particular the toll it has taken on the urban poor living in the shanty towns of Asia and Latin America. Dengue, a mosquito-borne viral infection, causes severe flu-like symptoms,...
متن کاملThe Evolution of Homophily
Biologists have devoted much attention to assortative mating or homogamy, the tendency for sexual species to mate with similar others. In contrast, there has been little theoretical work on the broader phenomenon of homophily, the tendency for individuals to interact with similar others. Yet this behaviour is also widely observed in nature. Here, we model how natural selection can give rise to ...
