Homological Reconstruction and Simplification in R
We consider the problem of deciding whether the persistent homology group of a simplicial pair (K, L) can be realized as the homology H∗(X) of some complex X with L ⊂ X ⊂ K. We show that this problem is NP-complete even if K is embedded in R3. As a consequence, we show that it is NP-hard to simplify level and sublevel sets of scalar functions on S3 within a given tolerance constraint. This prob...
متن کاملReconstruction of Curves in R3, using Factorization and Bundle Adjustment
In this paper, we extend the notion of affine shape, introduced by Sparr, from finite point sets to curves. The extension makes it possible to reconstruct 3D-curves up to projective transformations, from a number of their 2Dprojections. We also extend the bundle adjustment technique from point features to curves. The first step of the curve reconstruction algorithm is based on affine shape, is ...
متن کاملReconstruction and Simplification of Surfaces from Contours
In this paper we consider the problem of reconstructing triangular surfaces from given contours. An algorithm solving this problem has to decide which contours of two successive slices should be connected by the surface (branching problem), and, given that, which vertices of the assigned contours should be connected for the triangular mesh (correspondence problem). We present a new approach tha...
متن کاملMesh simplification with smooth surface reconstruction
In this work, a new method for mesh simpliication and surface reconstruction speciically designed for the needs of CAD/CAM engineering design and analysis is introduced. The method simpliies the original free-form face model by rst constructing restricted curvature deviation regions, generating a boundary conforming nite element quadrilateral mesh of the regions, and then tting a smooth surface...
متن کاملMultiresolution Surface Reconstruction: Edge Collapsing + Simplification Envelopes
Multiresolution surfaces are especially useful for fast rendering, real-time display, and progressive transmission. This paper reviews major surface simplification techniques and multiresolution surface reconstruction approaches. Based on comparison among various approximation algorithms we propose an appropriate measure for surface approximation accuracy and essential concepts for multiresolut...
