Holocene coastal landscape development in response to rising sea level in the Central Wadden Sea coastal region

چکیده

Abstract The Holocene sea-level rise has led to significant changes in present-day coastal zones through multifold retrogradational and slightly progradational displacements of the mainland coastline. During course this postglacial transgression, sediments characteristic environments accumulated first palaeovalleys pre-Holocene landscape later on subsequently developed plain. Based a compilation sedimentological, lithological litho-chronostratigraphical data more than 1200 sediment cores, we generated four palaeogeographic maps zone central Wadden Sea document with high spatial resolution during phases rise, i.e. periods 8600–6500 cal BP, 6500–2700 2700–1500 BP 1500–1000 BP. Along three cross-sections, representing different hydrodynamic conditions exposure, exemplify how development sedimentary facies types are controlled by local palaeorelief, changes, supply, accommodation space, morphodynamic impact channel shifts, their erosion base. This leads better understanding main factors controlling depositional processes along transgression.

Coastal barrier stratigraphy for Holocene high-resolution sea-level reconstruction

The uncertainties surrounding present and future sea-level rise have revived the debate around sea-level changes through the deglaciation and mid- to late Holocene, from which arises a need for high-quality reconstructions of regional sea level. Here, we explore the stratigraphy of a sandy barrier to identify the best sea-level indicators and provide a new sea-level reconstruction for the centr...

Climate Change, Hurricanes and Tropical Storms, and Rising Sea Level in Coastal Wetlands

Global climate change is expected to affect temperature and precipitation patterns, oceanic and atmospheric circulation, rate of rising sea level, and the frequency, intensity, timing, and distribution of hurricanes and tropical storms. The magnitude of these projected physical changes and their subsequent impacts on coastal wetlands will vary regionally. Coastal wetlands in the southeastern Un...

Late Holocene Caspian Sea Level Changes and its Impacts on Low Lying Coastal Evolution: a Multidisciplinary Case Study from South Southeastern Flank of the Caspian Sea

Caspian Sea is the largest land locked water body in the world and has been characterized by significant relative sea-level changes since the Pliocene. The sea-level oscillations have strongly impacted the coastal areas depending on geomorphological setting. This study aims to investigate the impacts of sea level oscillations on low-lying coasts of the southeastern flank of the Caspian Sea...
