Historical Review on Water Level Changes in Lake Kinneret (Israel) and Incomparable Perspectives

چکیده

A long-term (1933–2022) record of water level (WL) fluctuations in Lake Kinneret was reviewed. The dependence the WL management on climate change (flood–dryness alternate), dam and National Water Carrier (NWC) constructions constrained by availability domestic supply demands were indicated. short-term range maximal decline 4–6 m 4.6–6.5% total surface area lake shrinkage documented. Nevertheless, incomparably longer periods higher amplitudes accompanied a dramatic shrinking documented Tchad, Aral Sea Sivan (SAT). Therefore, comparative results other lakes as SAT are not justified.

Effects of historical lake level and land use on sediment and phosphorus accumulation rates in Lake Kinneret.

Current paradigms of reservoir ontogeny suggest that water-level fluctuations may increase sedimentary nutrient release, causing long-term eutrophication of water bodies formed by dryland flooding. Less is known of the changes in nutrient status following conversion of natural lakes into reservoirs. Here, we use historical hydrological and limnological data and paleolimnological records of sedi...

Intraguild Predation Dynamics in a Lake Ecosystem Based on a Coupled Hydrodynamic-Ecological Model: The Example of Lake Kinneret (Israel)

The food web of Lake Kinneret contains intraguild predation (IGP). Predatory invertebrates and planktivorous fish both feed on herbivorous zooplankton, while the planktivorous fish also feed on the predatory invertebrates. In this study, a complex mechanistic hydrodynamic-ecological model, coupled to a bioenergetics-based fish population model (DYCD-FISH), was employed with the aim of revealing...

Long-Term Changes in Cyanobacteria Populations in Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), Israel: An Eco-Physiological Outlook

The long-term record of cyanobacteria abundance in Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), Israel, demonstrates changes in cyanobacteria abundance and composition in the last five decades. New invasive species of the order Nostocales (Aphanizomenon ovalisporum and Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii) became part of the annual phytoplankton assemblage during summer-autumn. Concomitantly, bloom events of Micr...

Habitat partitioning of denitrifying bacterial communities carrying nirS or nirK genes in the stratified water column of Lake Kinneret, Israel

The community composition of denitrifying bacteria was studied in the stratified water column of Lake Kinneret. The nitrite reductase genes nirS and nirK were amplified by PCR from water samples taken at 1, 14, 19 and 22 m depth, which represent the epi-, metaand hypolimnion of the lake. The PCR products were analyzed with terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) and clone lib...

Isotopic paleolimnology of Lake Kinneret

The carbonate, organic C, and N contents and their respective d13C were measured in four cores from Lake Kinneret, Israel. Using these data and the isotopic difference between coexisting carbonate and organic C, Dd13C, we attempted to reconstruct the lake’s productivity and regional climatic conditions during the late Holocene. The sedimentary record of the last 120 yr (for which climatological...
