High urinary concentrations of parabens and bisphenol A in very low birth weight infants

چکیده
Very low birth weight infants (VLBW; < 1500 g) are treated with pharmaceuticals and medical equipment containing parabens bisphenol A (BPA). Parabens used in pharmaceuticals, whereas BPA where concentrations rarely reported hospitalised VLBW infants. We measured urinary of hypothesised high increasing born at lower gestational ages (GAs), among bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) late-onset septicaemia (LOS) due to higher exposure from equipment. Urinary samples were collected during the first (n = 38) fifth 36) week life. Methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, using ultra high-performance liquid chromatography coupled tandem mass spectrometry. had very compared term older children. The ? paraben concentration was than detected previous studies on premature Lower GA associated BPA. Infants before 28 weeks propylparaben (38.6 vs. 9.05 ng/mL, p 0.007), butylparaben (0.28 0.09 0.05) (15.1 6.02 0.02) after GA. LOS BPD without (LOS: 14.2 6.77 0.07; BPD: 18.6 7.62 0.05).

Frequency of Thyroid Function Disorders among a Population of Very-Low-Birth-Weight Premature Infants
Background: Thyroid function disorders, particularly congenital hypothyroidism (CHT), are important endocrine dysfunctions associated with permanent morbidities. CHT is more prevalent among preterm low-birth-weight neonates compared to term infants with normal weight. Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted on 126 very-low-birth-weight (VLBW) neonates referred to the neonatal inten...
متن کاملRECOMBINANT ERYTHROPOIETIN AND BLOOD TRANSFUSION IN VERY LOW BIRTH WEIGHT INFANTS
ABSTRACT Background: Very low birth weight infants ( <1500 g) frequently require blood transfusions because of repeated blood sampling accompanied by anemia of prematurity. Methods: In an attempt to identify the effect of human recombinant erythropoietin to decrease the requirement for blood transfusions, erythropoietin was administered to 24 pre term infants less than 1500 g prospectively fro...

BACKGROUND Eosinophilia is common in premature infants, though its clinical significance remains unknown. This study investigated the pattern of eosinophilia and related factors in very low birth-weight (VLBW) infants. METHODS The medical records of VLBW infants (birth body weight < 1500 g) admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of a tertiary care center of Cheng Kung University Hospita...

متن کاملNutrition of very low birth-weight infants
Background Numerous studies have underlined the importance of early feeding on shortand long-term development of very low birth-weight (VLBW) neonates [1,2]. Nutrition of preterm infants may be divided in two subsequent periods: the early adaptive or “transition” period from birth to the second week of life followed by the “stable-growing” period up to discharge from the neonatal unit. Dependin...
