[CII] line emission in BRI 1335-0417 at z = 4.4*
Using the 12-m APEX telescope, we have detected redshifted emission from the 157.74 μm [CII] line in the z = 4.4074 quasar BRI 1335-0417. The linewidth and redshift are in good agreement with previous observations of high-J CO line emission. We measure a [CII] line luminosity, L[CII] = (16.4 ± 2.6) × 109 L , making BRI 1335-0417 the most luminous, unlensed [CII] line emitter known at high-redsh...
متن کاملFormation of a Quasar Host Galaxy through a Wet Merger 1.4 Billion Years after the Big Bang
We present high-resolution Very Large Array imaging of the molecular gas in the host galaxy of the high redshift quasar BRI 1335–0417 (z = 4.41). Our CO(J=2→1) observations have a linear resolution of 0.15 (1.0 kpc) and resolve the molecular gas emission both spatially and in velocity. The molecular gas in BRI 1335–0417 is extended on scales of 5 kpc, and shows a complex structure. At least thr...
متن کاملHigh resolution CO imaging of high redshift QSO host galaxies
We review recent high-resolution CO observations of distant QSOs obtained at the Very Large Array. The aim of these observations is to resolve the molecular gas distribution in these extreme objects both spatially and in velocity space. They provide unique information regarding the small-scale distribution, the extent, and the brightness temperatures of the molecular gas in these early systems....
متن کاملSensitive Radio Observations of High-Redshift Dusty QSOs
We present sensitive radio continuum imaging at 1.4 GHz and 4.9 GHz of seven high redshift QSOs selected for having a 240 GHz continuum detection, which is thought to be thermal dust emission. We detect radio continuum emission from four of the sources: BRI 0952−0115, BR 1202−0725, LBQS 1230+1627B, and BRI 1335−0417. The radio source in BR 1202−0725 is resolved into two components, coincident w...
متن کاملChandra Observations of Qso 2237 + 0305
We present the observations of the gravitationally lensed system QSO 2237+0305 (Einstein Cross) performed with the Advanced CCD Imaging Spectrometer (ACIS) onboard the Chandra X-ray Observatory on 2000 September 6, and on 2001 December 8 for 30.3 ks and 9.5 ks, respectively. Imaging analysis resolves the four X-ray images of the Einstein Cross. A possible fifth image is detected; however, the p...
