چکیده

Abstract. The retrieval of continuous ice core records more than 1 Myr is an important challenge in palaeo-climatology. For identifying suitable sites for drilling such ice, knowledge the subglacial topography and englacial layering crucial. this purpose, extensive ground-based radar surveys were carried out over Dome Fuji East Antarctic plateau during 2017/18 2018/19 austral summers by Japanese Research Expedition, on basis conducted previous ? 30 years. High-gain Yagi antennae used to improve antenna beam directivity, thereby significantly decreasing hyperbolic features unfocused along-track diffraction hyperbolae echoes from mountainous ice–bedrock interfaces. We combined new thickness data with data, recorded since 1980s, generate accurate high-spatial-resolution (up 0.5 km between survey lines) map. This map revealed a complex landscape composed networks valleys highlands. Based map, we examined roughness ice–bed interface, bed surface slope, driving stress hydrological condition. These products analyses set substantial constraints possible locations drilling. In addition, our was compared few maps compiled earlier independent efforts based airborne examine difference datasets. Our analysis suggests that widely available should be validated situ observations where possible.

GigaRad – a Multi-Purpose High-Resolution Ground- based Radar System

Recently DLR has developed and constructed a new experimental radar instrument for various applications like radar signature collection, SAR/ISAR imaging, motion detection, tracking, etc., where high performance and high flexibility have been the key drivers for system design. Consequently a multipurpose and multi-channel radar called GigaRad is operated in X band and allows an overall bandwidt...

High-time-resolution profiles of soluble ions in the last glacial period of a Dome Fuji (Antarctica) deep ice core

We measured the depth profiles of soluble ions in the Dome Fuji (Antarctica) ice core to search for possible paleoclimate indications of seasonal climate variations in the last glacial period. A 523mm long core section between 587.65 and 588.18m depth was selected for this pilot study, and the high-resolution chemical analysis was done on 2mm thick samples. Our results indicate that anion– cati...

1-D-ice flow modelling at EPICA Dome C and Dome Fuji, East Antarctica

One-dimensional (1-D) ice flow models are used to construct the age scales at the Dome C and Dome Fuji drilling sites (East Antarctica). The poorly constrained glaciological parameters at each site are recovered by fitting independent age markers identified within each core. We reconstruct past accumulation rates, that are larger than those modelled using the classical vapour saturation pressur...

Radar Topography of Dome Volcanoes on Venus and Titan

Introduction: In October 2004, SAR imaging from Cassini’s TA encounter uncovered features suggestive of cryovolcanic constructs on Titan, including flows, sinuous channels, and the 180 km structure Ganesa Macula [1]. Ganesa Macula is a radar-dark, circular feature with bright flanks, sinuous channels, and a bright region in the center that may be a central depression. In many ways, Ganesa Macul...
