Giant Molecular Clouds in M33 Ii – High Resolution Observations
We present CO(1 → 0) observations of 45 giant molecular clouds in M33 made with the BIMA array. The observations have a linear resolution of 20 pc, sufficient to measure the sizes of most GMCs in the sample. We place upper limits on the specific angular momentum of the GMCs and find the observed values to be nearly an order of magnitude below the values predicted from simple formation mechanism...
متن کاملHigh Resolution Molecular Gas Maps of M33
New observations of CO (J = 1 → 0) line emission from M33, using the 25 element BEARS focal plane array at the Nobeyama Radio Observatory 45-m telescope, in conjunction with existing maps from the BIMA interferometer and the FCRAO 14-m telescope, give the highest resolution (13) and most sensitive (σrms ∼ 60 mK) maps to date of the distribution of molecular gas in the central 5.5 kpc of the gal...
متن کاملHigh-resolution radio continuum survey of M33 III. Magnetic fields
Aims. We study the magnetic field structure, strength, and energy density in the Scd galaxy M33. Methods. Using the linearly polarized intensity and polarization angle data at 3.6, 6.2 and 20 cm, we determine variations of Faraday rotation and depolarization across M33. We fit a 3-D model of the regular magnetic field to the observed azimuthal distribution of polarization angles. We also analyz...
متن کاملHigh-resolution radio continuum survey of M33 II. Thermal and nonthermal emission
Context. Constraints on the origin and propagation of cosmic rays can be achieved by studying the variation in the spectral index of the synchrotron emission across external galaxies. Aims. To determine the variation in the nonthermal radio spectral index in the nearby spiral galaxy M33 at a linear resolution of 360 pc. Methods. We separate the thermal and nonthermal components of the radio con...
متن کاملMultiwavelength observations of the M15 intermediate-velocity cloud
We present Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope H I images, Lovell telescope multibeam H I wide-field mapping, William Herschel Telescope long-slit echelle Ca II observations, Wisconsin Hα Mapper (WHAM) facility images, and IRAS ISSA 60and 100-μm co-added images towards the intermediate-velocity cloud (IVC) at +70 km s−1, located in the general direction of the M15 globular cluster. When combin...
