High-Resolution Late Devonian Magnetostratigraphy From the Canning Basin, Western Australia: A Re-Evaluation

چکیده

Late Devonian time was a period of rapid upheaval in the Earth system, including climate change, sea level changes, widespread ocean anoxia, and Frasnian-Famennian mass extinction; cause(s) these changes remain(s) uncertain. The Lennard Shelf Canning Basin Western Australia contains carbonate reef sections spanning much Epoch has been sampled for paleomagnetic analysis with studies by Hansma colleagues 2015 Playton 2016. However, previous directions were scattered their use magnetostratigraphy questioned. Here, rock magnetic data late drill-core from analyzed. Three magnetostratigraphic interpretations made using different paleopoles that showed good correlation each other earlier Additionally, revealed samples contain various mixtures detrital diagenetic minerals, former which should be viable recorders primary signatures. Even phases, often noisy produced ambiguous polarity assignments, likely due to anomalously weak field. Because this ambiguity absence robust paleopole, broader correlations critical time-period will difficult without additional Period. Expanded interval could eventually shed light on timing, causes, rates extinction environmental shifts Epoch.

A 12-month survey of recreational fishing in the Swan- Canning Estuary Basin of Western Australia during 1998-99

A survey of recreational boat-based and shore-based fishing in the Swan-Canning Estuary Basin was conducted between August 1998 and July 1999. During the survey 1,302 interviews were conducted at boat ramps. The majority of these (62%) were not involved in fishing or crabbing activities, with a further 18 per cent fishing in the adjacent ocean. Of the remainder, 139 boats had been crabbing and ...

Magnetostratigraphy of Late Eocene - Early Oligocene Strata from the CRP-3 Core, Victoria Land Basin, Antarctica

The Cape Roberts Project was successfully completed in the austral spring of 1999 with drilling of the 939.42-m CRP-3 drillhole, located 2-km west of the CRP-2/2A drillhole. The CRP-3 core comprises a 790-m Cenozoic (glacio-) marine sequence separated from underlying Devonian basement rocks by a c. 30-mthick dolerite conglomerate of undetermined age. Here, we present the results of a palaeomagn...

Sea-level Control on Source-rock Development: Perspectives from the Holocene Black Sea, the Mid-cretaceous Western Interior Basin of North America, and the Late Devonian Appalachian Basin

Changing sea level is a major factor in the pattern of enrichment of organic carbon in marginal and epicontinental seas. Organiccarbon-rich facies accumulate preferentially during major transgressive episodes. Rising sea level promotes retention of nutrients in marginal seas through several possible mechanisms, leading to higher organic production and/or eutrophic conditions. Transgressive seas...

Alborziphyllinae, A New Late Devonian Rugose Corals Subfamily

Members of the family Laccophyllidae are small, solitary rugose corals with stratigraphic ranges from Silurian to Permian. Among the laccophyllids, axial ends of major septa are united in an aulos and dissepiments may be absent or present. Minor septa can be contratingent and sometimes are small or in some genera are absent. Septa and aulos may be thick or thin. In this study, Famennian rugose...
