Silicon Lithium Detectors for Synchrotron Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy
Introduction Detector description and its principle of operation Detector module. Detector Features and its Performance EDXRF of Fe 55 Spectrum Detector comparison with Silicon Drift Detector SDD Concluding remarks References A Silicon Lithium Si(Li) detector is presented. The detector structure and its working principle are explained. The detector is cooled to 77o K by liquid Nitrogen. The det...
متن کاملSilicon Drift Detectors for High Resolution, High Count Rate X-ray Spectroscopy at Room Temperature
Silicon Drift Detectors (SDDs) consist of a fully depleted volume in which an electric field drives signal charges to a small sized anode. Due to their topology SDDs combine a large sensitive area with a small output capacitance. In an advanced SDD version for X-ray spectroscopy designed and fabricated at the MPI semiconductor laboratory the input transistor of the amplifying electronics has be...
متن کاملSilicon tracking detectors in high-energy physics
Since the fifties, semiconductors have been used as energy spectrometers, mainly in unsegmented ways. With the planar technique of processing silicon sensors in unprecedented precession, strip-like segmentation has allowed precise tracking and even vertexing, culminating in the early eighties with NA11 in the tagging of heavy flavor quarks—here the c-quark. With the later miniaturization of ele...
متن کاملAvalanche Amplification in Silicon Drift Detectors
A novel device which combines advantages of Silicon Drift Detector and Silicon Avalanche Diode on the same silicon wafer is proposed. Avalanche ampliication is applied to cloud of drifting electrons in order to improve detection of radiation with low energy deposition coeecient. Principle and optimal conditions for the operation of this new detector based on Avalanche Ampliier are discussed.
متن کاملRadiation Damage in Silicon Detectors for High-Energy Physics Experiments
Radiation effects in silicon detectors are discussed in view of their application in future high-energy physics experiments. An overview is given of the major changes in the operational parameters due to radiation damage and their origin in the radiation-induced microscopic disorder in the silicon bulk. The principal radiation hardening technologies are described that have been adopted by the h...
