High-intensity exercise impairs extradiaphragmatic respiratory muscle perfusion in patients with COPD

چکیده
We simultaneously assessed the blood flow index (BFI) in three respiratory muscles during hyperpnea and high-intensity constant-load cycling sustained at comparable levels of work breathing neural drive patients with COPD. demonstrated that exercise impairs muscle perfusion, as intercostal, scalene, abdominal BFI increased but not cycling. Insufficient adjustment perfusion was associated greater dyspnea sensations

Quadriceps and Respiratory Muscle Fatigue Following High-Intensity Cycling in COPD Patients
Exercise intolerance in COPD seems to combine abnormal ventilatory mechanics, impaired O2 transport and skeletal muscle dysfunction. However their relative contribution and their influence on symptoms reported by patients remain to be clarified. In order to clarify the complex interaction between ventilatory and neuromuscular exercise limiting factors and symptoms, we evaluated respiratory musc...
متن کاملRespiratory muscle unloading improves leg muscle oxygenation during exercise in patients with COPD.
BACKGROUND Respiratory muscle unloading during exercise could improve locomotor muscle oxygenation by increasing oxygen delivery (higher cardiac output and/or arterial oxygen content) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). METHODS Sixteen non-hypoxaemic men (forced expiratory volume in 1 s 42.2 (13.9)% predicted) undertook, on different days, two constant work rate (70...
متن کاملHigh-intensity inspiratory muscle training in COPD.
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of an interval-based high-intensity inspiratory muscle training (H-IMT) programme on inspiratory muscle function, exercise capacity, dyspnoea and health-related quality of life (QoL) in subjects with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. A double-blind randomised controlled trial was performed. Sixteen subjects (11 males, mean forced ...
متن کاملThe effect of exercise with low and high intensity on respiratory burst activities and neutrophils counts
Introduction: Although exercise his effects on human immune system, but its causes is not significantly cleared yet. This study is aimed to investigate the effect of exercise with moderate and high intensity, on changes of respiratory burst activities and neutrophil counts in college judoists. Methods: 10 male college judoists participated in this quazi-experimental study. Subjects run o...
متن کاملIncreased mortality in patients with severe COPD associated with high-intensity exercise: a preliminary cohort study
INTRODUCTION Intensity of exercise is believed to be a key determinant of response to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) rehabilitation. We hypothesized that a higher intensity of exercise, in combination with physiotherapist-led instructions and education in management of breathlessness, would lead to better self-management, possibly delaying calls to the emergency service and preven...
