High-Gossypol Whole Cottonseed Exhibited Mediocre Rumen Degradability and Less Microbial Fermentation Efficiency than Cottonseed Hull and Cottonseed Meal with an In Vitro Gas Production Technique

To explore whether or not the gossypol varied in cottonseed by-products affect rumen degradability and fermentation efficiency, an vitro cumulative gas production experiment was applied with mixed microorganism to compare characteristics of whole (WCS, n = 3 samples), meal (CSM, hull (CSH, 2 samples). The five-replicate per sample incubation time continuously lasted for 0.5, 1.5, 3, 6, 12, 24, 36, 48 h automated recording system. Regardless distinct nutrient differences, free level these ranked: WCS > CSH CSM. After incubation, dry matter ammonia N concentration ranked as: CSM CSH. total volatile fatty acid (VFA) levels culture fluids WCS, which average rate Regarding molar VFA pattern, comparison presented lowest non-glucogenic acids (e.g., acetate) exhibited highest efficiency energy from carbohydrates VFAs.
