Purified and Functionalized MWCNTs: Application In CO2/CH4 Separation Using Mixed Matrix Membranes

To fabricate a defect free and high performance mixed matrix membrane (MMM), one approach is the functionalization of inorganic nanofillers (as dispersed phase) in the organic polymer matrix (as continuous phase) to modify the interactions between two phases.  For this purpose,, raw multi-walled carbon nanotubes (rMWCNTs) were purified by acid mixture (HNO3/H2SO<sub...

Synthesis of PIL membranes for CO2 separation

Carbon dioxide (CO2) can be commonly found in natural gas streams, biogas, flue gas and product of coal gasification[1]. The presence of CO2 and other acid gases reduce the thermal efficiency and make the gas streams become acidic and corrosive, which in turn reduces the possibilities of gas compression and the transport within the transportation systems[2]. Membrane separation is a promising t...

AlPO-18 membranes for CO2/CH4 separation.

The synthesis of reproducible and continuous AlPO-18 membranes is demonstrated. The separation performance of these membranes for equimolar CO(2)/CH(4) gas mixtures is presented. The AlPO-18 membranes displayed CO(2) permeances as high as ~6.6 × 10(-8) mol m(-2) s Pa with CO(2)/CH(4) separation selectivities in the ~52-60 range at 295 K and 138 kPa.

Molecular Transport in Inorganic Membranes: CO2/CH4 Separation

Several large natural gas resources around the world contain large amounts of CO2. Economic recovery of the CH4 from streams having CO2 as the majority component presents numerous technical challenges. One potential separation option is based on inorganic membranes. We describe here general aspects of the CO2/CH4 separation process, the technical requirements for a membrane-based separation sys...
